Both of our boys told us they wanted to go to the beach this summer so we decided to take a road trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The last time we were there, my wife and I watched our boys build sandcastles and runaway from the waves. Our boys are much older now and this time around they took on the waves and a whole lot more.
We stayed at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort which had direct access to the beach which was sweet! We exited the rear of the hotel and the beach was right there. Our room wasn't stellar, but the view of the beach from our hotel more than made up for our room. My wife and I also enjoyed the pool bar which was perfectly positioned between the two outdoor pools where we spent a majority of our time. The kids spent most of their time at the water park and the lazy river which were both associated with Kingston Resorts.
We also spent a big chunk of our time at Broadway at the Beach where there are plenty of restaurants and shopping to occupy an entire day. While the boys spent most of their time at Dave & Busters, my wife and I enjoyed frozen adult beverages (Superman and Bob Marley) at one of our favorite places, Wet Willies. The Turners also enjoyed a late lunch at Wahlburgers which was pretty damn good. I highly recommend bypassing the french fries and opting for the sweet potato tots. We let the boys decide where we would eat for dinner and they chose Extreme Pizza which was an excellent choice.
We didn't do a lot of shopping; however, my wife and I went to Sunglass Hut and treated ourselves to a new pair of sunglasses. While we were at Broadway at the Beach, Drew fed the fish and he used his athletic skills to conquer the rock climbing wall. DJ spent most of his time in teenager mode and rocking his headphones, but he did indulge in some vanilla ice cream to cool himself off.
If we had more time, my wife and I would have definitely played a round of golf at any of the numerous golf courses in Myrtle Beach. But this trip was for our two boys so we made it all about them. We were not in Myrtle Beach long, but we definitely made the most of our two day stay.
