Last year the boys and I took my wife to Nationals Park for Mother’s Day for a day-night doubleheader, except my wife and my boys did not stay for the evening tilt. I attended the game by myself and I do not blame them for leaving because it made for a long day. Although I attended the second game by myself, I managed to secure a Trea Turner bobblehead for her.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and the Washington Nationals will not be able to bail me out this year. Unfortunately, the Nationals will be in Arizona Mother’s Day weekend, which means I have to put some serious thought into a great gift and making her day special.
I immediately thought about getting her some flowers, but I have been doing a pretty good job of getting her flowers regularly so I think I will bypass flowers this time. If your wife loves flowers and you don't regularly get her flowers, then by all means get her bouquet that will make her day. The online flower websites are ideal, but don't underestimate the flowers at grocery stores like Wegmans and Whole Foods Market. They have very nice arrangements.
My tech savvy wife is due for an upgrade on her phone so a new iPhone would be an excellent gift idea. The only challenge in that is deciding if I should get her the iPhone 8 or say hello to the future and get her the iPhone X. Perhaps an Apple Watch, Series 3 is in her future. She loves to swim and it's swim proof. Plus she can customize it by choosing her own watch band.
Alternatively, I could show her the love by shopping the new arrivals on Coach.com. I define Coach as simple elegance. It is not grandiose or flashy, but it sure does make a statement. Whether it is fragrances, sandals or purses, I can’t lose. It is impossible to choose the wrong gift from Coach. Maybe the wrong color, but never the wrong gift.
I could always accessorize my wife. Nothing says Mother's Day like jewelry, watches and perfumes. The big box stores like Macys, Nordstrom, Lord and Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue will be flooded with guys like me trying to pick up last minute gifts for our wives. Personally, I like to think of the aforementioned items as "Default Gifts." When all else fails and you are running out of time, accessorize your wife. That being said, you can still blow her away with the right accessory.
My wife already has a monthly membership to Massage Envy so that won't work for me, but presenting your wife with a massage is a helluva Mother's Day gift. You can get her a gift card, but a monthly membership is next level gift giving. Although, if you get a $125 gift card from Massage Envy, you can get a 60 minute facial service free and who doesn't like free.
We will definitely have dinner and breakfast. I just have to decide if I am going to cook or take her to one of her favorite restaurants. Some guys think romance on Mother's Day which is fine as well, but isn't that what Valentine's Day and any other random day is for? Whatever you decide to do, include the kids. I mean it is Mother's Day.
If we have time, maybe we will go see Breaking In on Mother’s Day because Payback is a Mother!
