Lemonade out of Lemons
Father’s Day weekend did not turn out how we planned it, but we made the most out of it. Our plans were to visit four different ballparks, but our original plans stalled as did our vehicle on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. We were supposed to attend ballgames in Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Chicago and Cleveland, but due to transmission issues we barely made it to Pittsburgh.
Despite being stranded, we had a blast. The first night we stayed at the William Penn Omni Hotel and the last night we stayed at the Dobule Tree. In between the aforementioned hotels, we crashed at the Hyatt House for three nights which was more family-friendly. The Hyatt House had a pool so we were able to take the boys swimming; there was a bike path nearby so we were able to walk the path and there was also a Cheescake Factory a half a block away which is one of our favorite restaurants.
Since the Pirates were in town battling the Cincinnati Reds we decided to visit PNC Park on Saturday and Sunday. My youngest son wanted a Pirates hat and lo and behold, the Pirates gave all the fathers and sons hats on Father’s Day. I tried to talk the boys into a third Pirates game on Monday, but being Nationals fans my boys had their fair share of Pirates baseball. So I nstead my wife and I took the boys to Dave & Busters for some indoor fun which allowed us to escape the heat. We also took our boys to see Incredibles 2 on Father’s Day which was an excellent family movie.
We were handed lemons, but we made refreshing lemonde out of the entire Father’s Day weekend. Even though my Chevy Tahoe let us down, the city of Pittsburgh did not. I still managed to have one of the best Father’s Day weekends I have ever had.
