First Time @ Birdland
The Turners along with my parents, my brother and my sister-in-law went to Oriole Park at Camden Yards to see the Orioles take on the Tigers. We spent the entire Saturday helping my brother and his wife move into their new home and we thought it would be a good family outing to back the birds on Sunday. It was by far the best Orioles game the Turners have seen. It wasn't because the Orioles won 12-3 and it wasn't because the Orioles hit 5 homeruns including back to back to back four baggers by Jonathan Schoop, Crush Davis and Trey Mancini. It was a great game because it was the first time my mother and step father have ever ventured into the great confines of Camden Yards.
When we arrived at the entrance of Camden Yards, my son pointed out Brooks Robinson's number since he had just recently learned about him. My son and I laughed because my step father started looking around because he thought the "Human Vacuum Cleaner" was actually there. We continued on and we passed through Legends Park in Camden Yards where they have bronze statues of Earl Weaver, Jim Palmer, Cal Ripken Jr., Eddie Murray, Brooks Robinson and Frank Robinson and that's when my step father stated he had never been to Camden Yards. My brother and I was totally shocked as we assumed our parents had been there before. My step father stated the last time he saw the Orioles in person was when the team played at old Memorial Stadium.
My parents are not huge baseball fans, but it felt great taking them to see the Orioles for the first time in more than 25 years, Had I realized they had never been to the stadium, I would have sprung for some better seats. Not that we had bad seats because there really isn't a bad seat at Camden Yards, especially when your parents get to spend the day with their grandchildren.
