Hanging With The Turners (HWTT) was launched in 2016 as a way to chronicle our family interactions, provide advice and suggestions as well as share ideas about family. Our hope is to inspire and motivate families through our activities and experience.

HWTT is all about family, sports and lifestyle. We provide thoughtful insight on our events through blog posts, original photography and social media. Happy hanging!

The Iron Man

The Iron Man

My latest sports memorabilia piece is an autograph baseball by one of my favorite baseball players I watched as a kid. Cal Ripken, Jr. AKA the Iron Man holds the record for consecutive games played. I remember watching the game when he personally ended his streak at 2,632. I even have the newspaper in which he broke the streak at 2,131 games on September 6, 1995. In todays game, when players are talking about rest I am not sure if his record will ever get broken.

Although I am impressed with his streak, I am most impressed with his 1983 and 1991 MVP awards because those years signified he was the best in baseball for those particular years. I was really close to getting an autographed baseball with 19X All-Star on it, but I opted for the MVP inscription instead. It goes great with the rest of my Orioles (Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Jim Palmer, Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson) baseball collection.
