School is officially out and parents are trying to find something for their kids to do everyday over the course of their summer break. We try to incorporate many different things with our boys to ensure they have a great summer. Whether it is taking the kids to their grandparent’s house, band camps, sports camps, historic sites or some other fun recreational activities, the objective is to keep the boys busy.
Last summer, my wife and I wanted to get the kids out of the house a little more so we combined our passion for movies and our love for the outdoors to create a fun and entertaining activity. We watch movies outdoors on average at least twice a week when we are not out of town and the kids love it. All you need is a projector screen, a projector, a tablet/phone and a Bluetooth speaker. Make sure you spend time researching the aforementioned items to determine the best customizable setup for your situation. During your research, determine how big you want your projector screen. There are an assortment of brands with all sorts of sizes. I opted for the Visual Apex Projector Screen 120HD Indoor/Outdoor Movie Theater Projector Screen (16 X9) because it had outstanding reviews on Amazon. The frame is basically one piece with two legs and the screen snaps on in minutes.
Next, choose your projector. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing your projector. Please note, with most projectors you will not be able to watch movies until the sun starts to set. Since I was only using my projector for outdoor use only, I elected to go with the Epson Home Cinema 740 HD 720p which is a fantastic projector. It’s not 4K or 1080p, but the picture is phenomenal; especially for outdoors. Most projectors have horrible sound quality, so you definitely need to get a Bluetooth speaker so everyone can enjoy the movie. I purchased the Beats Pill+ Speaker and the sound is outstanding . These days everyone has a tablet or phone so your entertainment is always at your fingertips. I use my iPad to access my movies as well as DirecTV. As long as you have the right connections or converters, you can plug your tablet or phone directly to your projector. This is an easy way to entertain your friends and family all summer long.
