Ambitionz az a Ridah
In respect to Tupac and his motion picture release this weekend (June 16th), I figured I would title this blog based on his best selling album and how I feel when I'm cycling. When I ride I need music, but most of the riders I come across, do it without music. They are so extremely focused that they don't even notice the surrounding sounds of the vehicles, the wind or the extra commotion around them. I asked one rider on the trail and he said the organic sounds of nature help to propel him down the trail.
As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing like hearing a Jay Z or Tupac track when your legs get heavy or your back gets tight. Sometimes the right song will give me that boost to get up that hill or push me from 17 mph to 18 mph. I wouldn't recommend wearing headphones unless you are on the trail, but your cockpit should have sounds and everything else you need for a great ride.
For me, I would much rather hit the road or the trail with a fellow rider like my wife, but I don't have a problem chewing up the asphalt by my lonesome. Even when I ride by myself, I feel as if I am competing with how I performed my last time out. Some times I eclipse my time and sometimes I don't, but each time out I have something to work towards. I think that's the reason I ride so often; I'm constantly trying to be better than my previous ride. Cole Henderson and Tony Butler convinced me to ride and now I can't get enough. I try to ride every chance I get and those are my Ambitionz az a Ridah!
