Shut 'em Down
We had an away game today and I wasn't sure how the team would respond. The team has been practicing well, but our first two games had been rained out so yesterday was our first official game. Our kids were a little intimidated by the size of the other team, but once the game started their fear went away with one swing of the bat. My son stepped in the batter's box and recorded the first hit and although we did not score that inning; it set the tone for the entire game.
DJ had a decent day by going 1-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and two runs scored. But he did his real damage on the mound as the head coach tabbed my son to pitch our first official game. He dominated the other team by completely shutting them down like Public Enemy in the midst of a complete game shutout as the Orioles won 16-0. DJ had four strike outs with only one walk. He fielded well from the number one position with a put out as well as a double play. He had all his pitches working for him, totally frustrating the opposition with an array of pitches including a slow curve and a wicked changeup that kept the hitters off balance.
After the game, the coach handed my son the game ball and he gave it to his little brother. There are some things we need to work on, but heck of a game kiddo.
