You Go Girl!
A cyclist rode pass my wife and I and said. "Perfect weather ain't it?"
I nodded my head, but deep down I was thinking no the hell it isn't! I can't stand riding in the cold; as a matter of fact I can't stand it. I know in cooler temperatures I should wear cycling tights and thermals and layers, but I refused to buy warmer cycling clothes because I am not going to make a habit of riding when it is below 70 degrees. I am more than comfortable riding my Livestrong Spin Bike, Indoor Cycle.
My wife was adequately dressed, but I was wearing cycling shorts. I got a little warmer with each mile we conquered, but we didn't even generate a good sweat. My goal was to cycle for 30 miles, but we only managed to chew up 23.02 miles of asphalt because I just couldn't generate enough heat. We kept a comfortable pace; averaging about 13.24 mph, but we pushed the pace quite a bit between our 11 and 17 mile splits. Our highest split was 17.33 mph and we topped out at 22.54 mph which was pretty good for us. We experienced a pretty decent headwind and my wife did an excellent job of drafting when she needed to. We didn't reach our goal, but at least we were able to ride off some of this birthday cake.
