Hanging With The Turners (HWTT) was launched in 2016 as a way to chronicle our family interactions, provide advice and suggestions as well as share ideas about family. Our hope is to inspire and motivate families through our activities and experience.

HWTT is all about family, sports and lifestyle. We provide thoughtful insight on our events through blog posts, original photography and social media. Happy hanging!

We Makin' Noise

We Makin' Noise

This past Saturday, the guys and I embarked on a road trip to State College, PA to watch the Penn State and Michigan game. It was one of the biggest games in Penn State since 2008, which was also the last time College Game Day visited Happy Valley. We wanted to go all out and tailgate, but we didn’t have the room to pack the TV, canopy, grill, etc. as the SUV was chock full of Nittany Lions and one unfortunate Wolverine fan whose night didn't end so well.

We were not able to take our tailgate to the next level like most of our fellow tailgaters, but we had one hell of a time. To offset our inability to tailgate to the fullest extent, we crashed the bar at Outback Steakhouse for some Kookaburra wings, steaks and beers. For the record, the Steakhouse Philly wrap was a welcoming surprise. After enjoying lunch at the Outback, we headed to Beaver Stadium to continue tailgating. We had a nice selection of beers, good sandwiches and plenty of snacks to help us power through the day until game time. We tossed around the pigskin, exchanged pleasantries with Wolverine supporters, and mingled with Penn State enthusiasts from across the country.

I think Wiz Khalifa said it best, "We Makin' Noise," because Beaver Stadium was absolutely rockin'. And with each big play, the crowd got noisier and noisier. The scene was electrifying and it was easily one of the most exhilarating college football experiences I have ever been a part of. We also made history as we were amongst the 110,823 screaming fans, breaking the Beaver Stadium attendance record. Penn State avenged last year’s loss and boat raced Michigan, 42-13. At the end of the game we drank a few cold ones and lit a few victory cigars and celebrated (well except for our Wolverine friend) with my cousin who is a PSU coach.

My son will be playing his last game of the fall baseball season this Saturday so I am not going to be able to travel to Ohio Stadium, also known as the Horseshoe, for this Saturday’s clash against the Ohio State Buckeyes. But you better believe I’ll be watching the game somewhere screaming Let's! Go! P-S-U!
