My boys and I recently acquired autographed Clayton Keyshaw and Max Scherzer 16 X 20 framed photos for the basement. At the time, I thought this would be a potential game one matchup in the NLCS. Well, I was hoping it would be. At least Keyshaw held up his end of my bargain. I guess I’ll just have to wait until next year to hopefully see that matchup.
Now it’s just coaching and watching my son play ball until the fall season is over. Today, we played in a tournament. Our team was boat raced in the first game. In the second game we beat the team that boat raced the team we lost too. It’s funny how those things work. DJ was only on the mound for one inning in game 2, but he did strike out two batters. We kept him at 20 pitches because we were saving him for tomorrow as we play another doubleheader. Last weekend we played three tournament games and in the past five tournament games, DJ is hitting .600 with a homerun and three walks. He even made the SMYO League Facebook page with his homerun blast last weekend.
After tomorrow, there’s only two weeks left so I keep telling my son to enjoy every pitch, every swing, every throw because the season will be over before you know it. Just ask our Washington Nationals. But even at 12 years old, there’s no offseason as he will be at Extreme Baseball for the next five months and I will be trying to figure out the next piece to add to the man cave.
